Brisbane have appointed David Noble to be the AFL club's new general manager of football.

Noble, who has spent the best part of the past decade with the Adelaide Crows as an assistant coach, list manager and head of football, will join a five-person panel in appointing the Lions' new coach, which will begin interviewing candidates immediately.

He has also been reportedly earmarked to eventually succeed Greg Swann as the club's CEO.

"David has an outstanding track record and is widely respected across the industry," said Swann.

"The club is going in a new direction and we need the best people to lead that change - David really fits the bill across every criteria.

"He is an elite operator and the professionalism, knowledge and experience he will bring to our football department will be key to our club's revival."

Prior to joining the Crows, Noble coached SANFL side Glenelg and spent five years as an assistant at the Western Bulldogs.

He played a significant role in the appointments of coaches Don Pyke and the late Phil Walsh at Adelaide.

Despite the official process to replace the sacked Justin Leppitsch not yet beginning, reports suggest the Lions are already down to two options - Hawthorn football boss Chris Fagan or Carlton assistant John Barker.

Noble begins the new job on Monday.
