Australian Women's Open champion Haru Nomura has defied strong winds to win the LPGA Tour's Swinging Skirts Classic in California.

The 23-year-old Japanese player closed with a one-over 73 in wind gusting to 56km/h at Lake Merced to finish at nine-under-par 279 and win from South Africa's Lee-Anne Pace (74) by four strokes.

It was Nomura's second LPGA Tour win following her Australian Women Open victory at The Grange in Adelaide in February, when she shot a closing 65 to beat world No.1 Lydia Ko by three strokes.

This time two-time and defending champion Ko had to settle for a tie for sixth after shooting a closing 75 on her 19th birthday.

Victorious in last week's Lotte Championship, Australia's Minjee Lee struggled in the windy conditions and shot a 76th to be tied for 11th.
