After the worst week in Parramatta's history, Corey Norman has provided a silver lining for the embattled NRL club, revealing his re-signing is imminent.
In what must be music to the ears of the blue and gold faithful, Norman revealed he was close to inking a new deal to stay at Parramatta beyond 2016.
With star playmaker Kieran Foran on Thursday informing the club of his intention to quit the NRL, Norman's re-signing shapes as especially important.
"I think we're close mate. So hopefully we can get it done soon," Norman told AAP.
"Nothing's a guarantee but yeah, it's close."
The Eels five-eighth strengthened his claim to being the most improved player in the competition by spearheading a come-from-behind, against-all-odds 22-18 win over Sydney Roosters on Friday night.
Brad Arthur's side looked dead and buried at 18-6 down with 20 minutes remaining and reduced to 15 men following injuries to winger Semi Radradra (knee) and hooker Isaac De Gois (concussion).
With playmaking partner Jeff Robson shifted into dummy-half and Norman asked to run the show on his own, he produced one of the best individual displays of the year.
He came up with the assist on all four of his side's tries and kicked for 544 metres.
As well, he came up with a try-saving tackle on Joseph Manu in the dying seconds to deny the Roosters the chance to level up.
"He's a real footballer," Arthur said.
"He's been working hard for three years.
"It's been really tough on him the last half a dozen games with only one half.
"He's had no choice, he's had to grow and mature and take a leadership role and he's done a really good job of it."
Foran has quit the game as he addresses personal issues following the break down of his long-term relationship.
He was in April admitted into a rehabilitation facility after overdosing on prescription medication and has asked for time away from football.
"We're here to support him," Arthur said.
"He needs some time away from the game. And his priority is to get himself right so we're happy to support him."
