North axe Hansen after 11 AFL seasons

North Melbourne have told veteran key defender Lachie Hansen that he won't be offered a new AFL contract for next season.

North Melbourne have begun their post-season list cull, the club advising Lachie Hansen on Tuesday that he won't be offered a new AFL deal.

Hansen, the No.3 pick at the 2006 draft, played 151 games in 11 seasons at Arden Street, but the 29-year-old was hampered by hip injuries and concussion issues last year.

"Lachie has been a delight to coach and has been one of the most dynamic, versatile players in the league," coach Brad Scott said.

"His ability to play forward or back for us was a tremendous asset to the team.

"He'll be sorely missed around the club and was one of those unique characters.
