Four people have been killed and six injured in a car bomb in front of a cafe in Russia's volatile North Caucasus region of Dagestan, reports said quoting local police.

"Three dead and seven injured were taken to hospital, one injured person died on the operating table," a medical source told the Ria-Novosti agency following the attack at Khassaviourt.

The car bomb followed Monday's suicide bombing at Russia's main airport in which 35 people died. It was Moscow's second attack in less than a year.

Suicide bombings are also becoming increasingly frequent in the Caucasus, where fatal attacks on government and police officials by Islamist militants are an almost daily occurrence.

Russia's recent unrest comes as President Dmitry Medvedev outlined the country's plans to join the OECD following accession to the WTO and establish a common economic area with the European Union. He is keen to bring stability to the troubled North Caucus area, with plans to build world-class ski resorts in the region.
