A north Queensland man kicked and spat on paramedics and police as they treated him after a car crash.

The man became violent on the side of the road at Tully on Sunday afternoon, allegedly assaulting five paramedics and officers.

He was restrained in the back of an ambulance but police say he lashed out again on the way to Tully Hospital.

The 21-year-old will appear in Innisfail Magistrates Court on Monday charged with eight counts of assaulting police and 10 counts of seriously assaulting a public officer.
