Northern NSW clans create 'Murrawarri Republic'

Clan Groups from the Culgoa River region of Northern New South Wales have declared their independence.

The new Murrawarri Republic has its own constitution, and organisers are demanding government recognition both in Australia and overseas.

The Attorney General's Department told NITV it wants Indigenous peoples to participate in Australia's democracy, adding that the Australian Constitution recognises the Commonwealth and the states and territories as the "only" constituent entities.
