Nothing to fear about China rise: Shorten

Labor leader Bill Shorten has told Chinese New Year celebrations that Australia has nothing to fear about the rise of China.

Australia has nothing to fear about the rise of China, Bill Shorten believes.

The Labor leader made the remark while joining Chinese New Year celebrations in Melbourne on Saturday, welcoming in the year of the rooster.

"We see in the world today some people saying that somehow the rise of China is a challenge. I invite them to come to Melbourne and see what the Chinese community has contributed to Australia ," Mr Shorten told the crowd.
