US romance writer Nancy Crampton-Brophy, 68, has been charged with the murder of her husband of 27 years after a three-month investigation.
Sixty-three-year-old Daniel Brophy was murdered in a kitchen at the Oregon Culinary Institute on 2 June, where he worked as an instructor.
As his wife, Nancy Crampton-Brophy wrote on Facebook expressing her shock and sadness, police continued to search for her husband's killer.
But in an unexpected twist, 68-year-old Ms Crampton-Brophy was arrested by Oregon police in connection with the murder of her husband.
Ms Crampton-Brophy is a romance author who has published novels titled: "The wrong husband" and wrote an essay on a blog in November 2011 called "How to Murder Your Husband", according to The Oregon Live.
She was charged with murder and unlawful use of a weapon by Oregon police on 6 September, nearly three months after the murder.
The author has appeared in court, but police and prosecutors are yet to reveal the alleged motive.
"Based on information learned during the investigation, detectives believe Nancy L. Crampton-Brophy is the suspect in Daniel C. Brophy's murder," the police statement read.
Ms Crampton-Brophy wrote a 700-word blog essay in 2011 discussing a couple of potential motivations for wanting to kill a spouse, according to the Oregon Live.
"As a romantic suspense writer, I spend a lot of time thinking about murder and, consequently, about police procedure," she wrote in the 2011 essay 'How to Murder Your Husband'.
"After all, if the murder is supposed to set me free, I certainly don't want to spend any time in jail."
