The National Rifle Association has released a video that criticises Australia’s gun laws, focusing on the buyback scheme introduced under John Howard.
The NRA released the video, named “Australia Means Bans & Confiscation,” on its YouTube page on January 20.
The video features clips of US President Barack Obama and presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton speaking about Australia’s gun laws.
"What President Obama and Hillary Clinton don’t want you to know...," the video states in bold text that appears on the screen.
"Is what they’re talking about when they're talking about Australia."
The video then shows examples of newspaper advertisements about the 1996 gun buyback scheme.
One such clipping features a large headline that asks “Have you handed in your illegal firearm? You only have until the 30th September.”
The NRA video, with an ominous music track laid over the images, then states: "This is your last chance".
"When they’re talking about AUSTRALIA they’re talking about BANS and CONFISCATION."

The buyback scheme was introduced in 1996 after the Port Arthur massacre, when gunman Martin Bryant shot and killed 35 people.
The government bought more than 600,000 firearms under the scheme.
The NRA video has generated more than 100 comments on YouTube at the time of publication.
"After reading those headlines in those Australian papers, just imagine our government trying that s--t. Americans would go insane with rage. Not going to happen here without a blood bath," wrote one commenter.
"I'm Australian. The place is vastly better without guns. We won't be going back to the way it was," wrote another.
