NRL CEO Todd Greenberg has refused to speculate on Jarryd Hayne's playing future after the former Parramatta star was charged over an alleged sexual assault.

Hayne was charged early on Tuesday with aggravated sexual assault and inflicting actual bodily harm.

The 30-year-old has been granted strict conditional bail and has to appear at Burwood Local Court on December 10.

The NSW State of Origin star is currently out of contract and the allegations won't help his prospects of signing a new NRL deal.

But asked about Hayne's chances of getting another NRL contract, Greenberg said: "Jarryd has got issues to deal with and they have got nothing to do with rugby league at the moment.

"So I am not prepared to talk about that for obvious reasons.

"Given he has been charged and it is a serious police matter I am not going to be making any comment on Jarryd."

A woman claims she suffered injuries during a sexual encounter with Hayne in the NSW Hunter Valley and that she had photographs to back up her story.

It's understood the alleged victim was interviewed by the NRL's integrity unit before the matter was referred to police.

Police allege the assault of the 26-year-old woman took place in a Hunter region home on September 30.

Greenberg confirmed that Parramatta had checked on Hayne's welfare since his arrest.

But he didn't want to say too much more about Hayne at Tuesday's press conference in Brisbane, which launched ticket sales for the 2019 Magic Round in May.

"I'm not going to add any comments around Jarryd. I know you want me to do (but) it's a serious issue," Greenberg said.

"I am not going to speculate about Jarryd because it is before the courts."

Two-time Dally M medallist Hayne had been sweating on a new NRL deal after Parramatta did not offer him a fresh contract despite a strong season finish in 2018.

He was one of the Eels' best players in the back half of 2018, busting through 32 tackles and scoring six tries in the final six games of the season as he returned to fitness.
