NRL Mad Monday antics spark police probe

Police are investigating whether a Sydney pub breached its liquor licence as part of Canterbury Bulldogs NRL players' post-season celebrations.

An NRL team's 'Mad Monday' antics have sparked a police probe of a Sydney pub over possible alcohol licensing breaches.

Canterbury Bulldogs players partied in the nude, danced on tables, vomited on the street and passed out unconscious during end-of-season drinks at The Rock's Harbour View Hotel on Monday, The Daily Telegraph reports.

Officers attended the bar on Tuesday after graphic photos of the rowdy celebrations were splashed across the newspaper's front page.

"Police have been made aware of potential licensing issues at a hotel on Lower Fort Street, Dawes Point," an NSW Police spokeswoman told AAP.

"The reports follow a function at the venue yesterday.

"Sydney City licensing police have attended the premises to speak with the licensee and make follow-up inquiries."

Any players who engaged in illegal activity could also come under scrutiny if evidence comes to light.

"While we have received no formal complaints regarding any other matter at the hotel yesterday should further offences be identified action will be taken," the police statement read.

It isn't the first time 'Mad Monday' drinks have gone awry for the club after some attendees were recorded allegedly making sexist remarks to a female journalist during post-season celebrations at Belmore Oval in 2012.

In the aftermath, the NRL recommended Canterbury make a $30,000 charity contribution out of the players' own pockets.

The Bulldogs said two-of-the-three derogatory remarks were directed at English forward James Graham and not the journalist.
