NRL round five snapshot

A snapshot of round five of the NRL.

* QUOTE OF THE ROUND:

"He's played enough football to know what the rules are." - Brisbane coach WAYNE BENNETT wasn't overly impressed after Jordan Kahu suffered a brain fade and gave away a penalty when he picked up a line drop out which didn't go 10 metres.

* MAN OF THE ROUND:

After a failed experiment in the halves last year, Manly's DYLAN WALKER looks like a new player since shifting back to the centres. His two tries, including the match-winner, sealed the Sydney Roosters' first loss of the season.

Cameron Smith chalked up his 238th premiership win, surpassing Darren Lockyer as the most successful player in NRL history.

* MAGIC MOMENT:

Nick Cotric's brilliant individual effort to seal Canberra's win over Parramatta showed why the 18-year-old is one of the competition's most exciting young players.

* TALKING POINT:

KIERAN FORAN is back. Playing in his first game in 307 days, Foran made his club debut for the Warriors and his presence felt with a decisive try which levelled the scores in the 62nd minute.

* JUDICIARY WATCH:

Wests Tigers - Suaso Sue (dangerous tackle).

* CASUALTY WARD:

Brisbane - James Roberts (hamstring); Sydney Roosters - Dylan Napa (ankle); South Sydney - Robbie Farah (back); North Queensland - Coen Hess (concussion); Newcastle - Sione Mata'iuta (concussion); Warriors - Bodene Thompson (achilles); Titans - Tyrone Roberts (knee), Ryan Simpkins (back) and Joe Greenwood (concussion); St George Illawarra - Josh Dugan (hamstring); Wests Tigers - Matt Balin (knee).

* UNDER PRESSURE:

MOSES MBYE - The Bulldogs' timely win over Brisbane eased pressure on coach Des Hasler. They did it without suspended Mbye, with fill-in playmaker Matt Frawley doing a tremendous job of controlling the game. His display creates competition for spots with Mbye under the pump.
