NRL round seven snapshot

A snapshot of round seven of the NRL.

* Quote of the Round

"I am filthy with Gus saying we won in a soft competition. You could find 100 takes from Gus during the year about how tough the competition is ... There is no premiership, especially in this competition, that is soft. And he knows it." - Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan unloads on Penrith general manager Phil Gould for his assertion that the Sharks won the competition in a soft year.

* Man of the Round

Jack Bird went into his side's clash with Penrith with plenty of Cronulla fans dirty at him after he announced he was defecting to Brisbane next year. However he showed his class with a top-drawer performance that included a second-half try.

* Stat That Matters

Following Sunday's 28-2 win over Penrith, Cronulla have now kept their opposition scoreless in back-to-back matches for the first time since 1994.

* Magic Moment

The Gold Coast looked headed for their first win over Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium in 10 years until Matt Gillett charged down a Kane Elgey kick, regathered and sent James Roberts sailing over for the match-winning try.

* Talking Point

Does the NRL need to introduce a transfer window? Wests Tigers coach Ivan Cleary on the weekend renewed calls for a new system for player movements as his club battles to retain a number of off-contract stars.

* Judiciary Watch

South Sydney - Sam Burgess (shoulder charge).

*Casulaty Ward

Brisbane - Tevita Pangai Jr (finger); Gold Coast - Ryan James (ankle), Chris Grevsmuhl (groin), Max King (hand), Dale Copley (back); Newcastle - Jamie Buhrer (ankle); Sydney Roosters - Ryan Matterson (ankle); Manly - Lloyd Perrett (sternum); Penrith - James Fisher-Harris (shoulder); Parramatta - Beau Scott (calf); Wests Tigers - Jamal Idris (hamstring).

* Under Pressure

Canterbury hooker Michael Lichaa is no certainty to wear the No.9 for the rest of the year and is playing for his future. He played just 25 minutes in Friday's win over South Sydney, with coach Des Hasler preferring to move Matt Frawley into the halfback role and Moses Mbye into dummy-half.
