NRL round six snapshot

A snapshot of round six of the NRL.

* QUOTE OF THE ROUND:

"That's ridiculous. Mind boggling. I've never seen it before. You can't do it." - Manly coach TRENT BARRETT channels his inner Geoff Toovey after being told the bunker couldn't rule on whether Daly Cherry-Evans was taken out of play while trying to get to dummy-half, gifting St George Illawarra a try.

* MAN OF THE ROUND:

In just his second game in first grade Canterbury back-up halfback MATT FRAWLEY proved he's ready to pressure Moses Mbye and Josh Reynolds for a starting spot, scoring one try and setting up another in their close win over Newcastle.

* STAT THAT MATTERS:

Melbourne failed to score a try in a game for the first time since June 2015, as their 11-2 loss to Cronulla went within seven minutes of being the first try-less match since 1993.

* MAGIC MOMENT:

JACOB LIDDLE burrowed over late against North Queensland to guarantee the Wests Tigers their first win since round one - a much-needed 26-16 victory after a turbulent first week for new coach Ivan Cleary.

* TALKING POINT:

An entire state will wait on scans of Johnathan Thurston's calf after he was carried from the field in North Queensland's loss to the Wests Tigers. The Cowboys could be without their star for an extended stint, while his run of 36 straight State of Origin matches could also be in doubt.

* JUDICIARY WATCH:

Parramatta - Corey Norman (shoulder charge)

* CASUALTY WARD:

Brisbane - Ben Hunt (hamstring) Corey Oates (groin), Josh McGuire (shoulder); Canterbury - David Klemmer (ankle); Manly - Akuila Uate (groin), Martin Taupau (rib); St George Illawarra - Tyson Frizell (ribs); Gold Coast - Tyrone Roberts (toe); North Queensland - Johnathan Thurston (calf), Shaun Fenson (ankle); Parramatta - Bevan French (knee).

* UNDER PRESSURE:

Parramatta began the season with two straight wins to go atop the table, but Sunday's loss to the Warriors was their fourth straight. Making matters worse for the Eels, they also learned on Saturday that exciting fullback Bevan French would miss about a month with a knee injury.
