NRL's pre-season trials report card

The NRL trials are over with Cronulla looking the most switched on after their two games and Melbourne's attack far from its best in their losses.

HOW YOUR NRL TEAM'S PRE-SEASON FORM RATES

CRONULLA (A): Look ready to go after outclassing Newcastle 30-6 with Shaun Johnson piloting them nicely. Also beat Manly without most of their big guns in their opening trial.

NORTH QUEENSLAND (A-): Won both their trials with Jake Clifford starring against Gold Coast and their pack showing they can again be one of the game's best against Melbourne.

SYDNEY ROOSTERS (B+): Their World Club Challenge win should have rest of the competition on alert as they chase back-to-back titles. Loss to Manly means little with none of their grand-final winning side playing.

SOUTH SYDNEY (B): Can't take much from Penrith loss after their big names barely played, but the signs were there in their win over the Dragons. Damien Cook kicked exceptionally well from dummy-half while Corey Allan looks a gun.

PARRAMATTA (B): Looked disciplined with their best team on the park against both Canberra and Penrith. Attack still has improvement in it but the signs are positive.

GOLD COAST (B-): Took an 18-0 lead over Brisbane on Saturday night before a lack of depth was evident in the loss. Recruit Shannon Boyd looks the goods, while they were also in the game against North Queensland last week.

BRISBANE (B-): Won both trials against Wynnum-Manly and Gold Coast but it wasn't all clear sailing. Trailed 18-0 early to the Gold Coast while Tevita Pangai Junior's hamstring injury last week is a concern.

CANTERBURY (B-): Only played the one trial in loss to Canberra but their top squad got the job done when both teams were close to full strength.

WARRIORS (B-): Won both trials with Adam Keighran looking most likely to be halfback. Wingers Ken Maumalo and David Fusitu'a also look ready to fire.

ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA (C+): Off-field woes are well known but on it their attack looks promising with Corey Norman at five-eighth and Gareth Widdop fullback. Defence is more concerning after conceding 36 points to Souths.

CANBERRA (C+): Got away with come-from-behind wins in both their trials but trailed 22-6 to Canterbury at halftime with both team's top squads on the field. Jack Wighton appears to have potential at five-eighth.

MANLY (C): Been ravaged by the injury to Tom Trbojevic and Dylan Walker's ban. Trent Hodkinson and Kane Elgey both showed promise at No.6 in their win over a second-string Sydney Roosters.

PENRITH (C): Beat Souths in the wet in their first trial but there were worrying signs at near full strength in their 20-0 loss to Parramatta. Attack was the chief concern with possible changes before round one.

NEWCASTLE (C-): Their attack showed good signs against St George Illawarra last week but they were barely let into the game by a very clinical Cronulla on Saturday night.

WESTS TIGERS (D+) - Played just the one trial and lost a reasonably uninspiring game to the Warriors. Neither Benji Marshall or Josh Reynolds really put their foot down for the No.6 jersey.

MELBOURNE (D): Attack looks a concern after just two tries in their opening two trials and the injury to Scott Drinkwater. But Cameron Smith hasn't played either game and it was only a young side that lost to the Warriors last week.
