NRL's Warriors sign Payten as assistant

Todd Payten will move from North Queensland to the Warriors to take an assistant coaching post.

Todd Payten will replace Andrew McFadden as an assistant coach at the Warriors from next year.

Payten, 39, will leave an equivalent post at North Queensland to take up a three-season contract.

Former Warriors head coach McFadden is returning home to Canberra at the end of the season, ending six years with the Auckland club.

Payten joins Tony Iro and Stacey Jones as assistants under Stephen Kearney in 2019.

Kearney said former Wests Tigers title-winning prop Payten has been showing promising signs early in his coaching career.

"While replacing Cappy (McFadden) wasn't going to be easy after the wonderful contribution he has made to our club, we've been extremely fortunate to secure Todd," Kearney said.

Payten made a total of 259 playing appearances with Canberra, Sydney Roosters and Wests Tigers before injury forced his retirement in 2011.

He was an assistant at the Cowboys when they won the 2015 premiership.
