NSW beat WA by 75 runs to extend comp lead

NSW say they have room for improvement despite being clear leaders in the domestic one-day cricket cup, after a comfortable win against WA.

It might be early days but NSW are on track for another appearance in cricket's domestic one-day cup final after a third emphatic win on the trot, this time against last year's winners Western Australia.

The Blues all-international side proved too strong for WA who were never really in the hunt to chase down an imposing 5-264, and were eventually all out for 189 after 44.4 overs.

Once again Australian Test fast bowler Mitchell Starc led the way ripping through the WA top-order with 4-23, while fellow paceman Gurinder Sandhu nabbed 4-29 in the 75-run win.

Former Test opener Ed Cowan top-scored for the Blues with 100 and put on 133 for the first wicket with Nic Maddinson (73).

NSW are comfortably clear at the top of the standings following massive wins earlier this week by 279 and 156 runs respectively.

Cowan has sent an ominous warning to their opponents saying the Blues have scope for further improvement.

"Everyone is contributing, and there is a great feeling in the team at the moment," he said.

"Everyone has confidence that the other people are going to do their role and when that happens good cricket teams are created.

"We are only three games in and we have talked about getting better with every outing. If we can keep improving, look out at the end of the tournament."

There was, however, a rare failure for Australian captain Steve Smith who, after top-scoring in the previous two matches, fell for a second ball duck caught behind off the bowling of Mitch Marsh.

Starc, though, continued his stunning form and he now has 14 wickets from three matches at an average of five.

"He (Starc) bowls with good pace, attacks the stumps and can swing the ball too so you know as a batter you are in for a real contest," said WA batsman Michael Klinger.

"He is the best in the world at the moment, and was a bit too good for us today."
