An unlicensed Sydney used car salesman will have to cough up a $32,000 fine for winding back odometers on cars he sold.
Jimmy Iskandar copped the $31,762 fine for tampering with the odometers on Toyotas and a Mercedes between 2010 and 2012, NSW Fair Trading said in a statement.
Fair Trading said Iskandar, from Casula in Sydney's west, fiddled with the odometers to boost the cars' resale values.
Parramatta Local Court heard in one instance, Iskandar was able to double the resale price on a 2006 Toyota Camry by winding the odometer back from 121,429kms to 46,118kms.
In another, the odometer on a 2007 Toyota Camry was wound back by more than 100,000kms.

Fair Trading Commissioner Rod Stowe said Iskandar was lucky he wasn't jailed.
"Odometer tampering is a serious offence and creates significant detriment for consumers," he said in a statement.
