The NSW Nationals leader has vowed to put a stop to forced council amalgamations in the bush.
A day after Premier Mike Baird's shock resignation announcement, Nationals leader John Barilaro has pounced on the disruption within the state Liberal Party to push his party's agenda on local governance.
That starts with "drawing a line in the sand" over controversial council amalgamations, Mr Barilaro said in a statement on Friday.
"The policy of local government amalgamations has impacted 20 councils, 12 of which are in regional NSW causing uncertainty and anger, and others are locked in costly legal action - that all stops today," Mr Barilaro said.
