NSW women and families fleeing domestic violence are being housed in the same motels as former prisoners, the state opposition says.
Labor's community services spokeswoman, Tania Mihailuk, said the system was disturbing.
"Vulnerable families shouldn't have to fear for their children's safety when being sent to a motel for temporary accommodation," she said in a statement on Saturday.
She said motels approved by the Department of Family and Community Services to house vulnerable women and families were also being used to accommodate parolees even though Family and Community Services Minister Brad Hazzard had given assurances procedures were in place to stop parolees and woman and children being placed in the same motel.
Mr Hazzard announced the results of an urgent review into the matter last month.
But Ms Mihailuk said families were still being placed at risk, and called for an end to the practice.
"If the minister oversees a system that can send families with vulnerable young children to the same motel as criminals released on parole, then the failure of the system falls squarely at his feet," she said.
Comment has been sought from Mr Hazzard's office.
Mr Hazzard said the government had taken steps to address the long-standing practice, and accused Labor of playing politics.
He said that about two months ago he had been made aware of one hotel where both parolees and women escaping domestic violence were being housed.
"I directed the department to do an audit across the state and see if it was happening broadly and put a stop to it," he told AAP.
Mr Hazzard said he also asked all MPs to report back to him if they were aware of it happening in their area.
"It's been a practice that's been going on for many years including under the former Labor government and it's a little unfortunate that we're playing politics now when we've taken steps to stop the practice," he said.
