Households could save hundreds of dollars a year off energy bills as a result of the NSW government's energy relief package.
Announced on Sunday in western Sydney, the package includes increases to low income household and family energy rebates, discounts for energy efficient appliances, concession cardholder discounts and small business concessions.
"We are going to take care of you during this time when energy prices are going up," NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian told reporters in western Sydney on Sunday.
The reforms will encourage households to use less energy by rewarding consumers who purchase energy efficient lighting and air conditioning.
Referring to the reported 15 to 20 per cent rise in energy prices, the premier says energy rebates will increase to 20 per cent under the new reforms.
The government has committed to keeping energy suppliers accountable by ensuring transfer fees are abolished and customers won't be charged for paying bills over the counter.
"We're going to make sure we do everything we can to ease the cost of living pressures," Ms Berejiklian said.
"It will potentially help every single household."
Small businesses will also reap the benefits with discounts for appliance upgrades available.
The cost of the package could be in excess of hundreds of millions of dollars, depending on how many households use the benefits.
The rebates alone will cost the government $55 million a year, Ms Berejiklian said.
The premier also called on all state governments and the Commonwealth to do more to reduce the energy burden on Australians.
"When other states fail to do their job, that means they rely heavily on NSW," she said.
"I would like to see all governments including the federal government to work harder and do more to reduce the energy burden."
The increased rebates will come into effect immediately for consumers who already receive energy rebates while the appliance upgrade discount will start in early 2018.
