It's rare for NSW farmers to pray for the rain to go away but crop growers will be doing just that as heavy rain puts the fate of their crops in the balance.
The rain in the past fortnight has been a mixed bag for farmers, with lowland farmers or those with poor drainage dealing with damaged crops and losses of up to 50 per cent.
Farmers on higher land or with good drainage are looking at fantastic crops thanks to the rain, NSW Farmers spokeswoman Rebecca Reardon said.
Mrs Reardon said most farmers will be hoping for sunny weather to dry the ground out.
Farmer Dan Cooper, who has a property south of Forbes in the NSW central west, believes most farmers in his area will have lost about five per cent of their crops.
He said that figure could rise to up to 80 per cent for those on flat country.
"You're very loath to criticise rain, but in the last 10 days the rain has certainly done more harm than good," he said.
