The NSW government has pledged nearly $10 million to boost support services for eating disorders over the next four years.
NSW Mental Health Minister Tanya Davies on Sunday announced $9.6 million to further the work of The InsideOut institute and expand its frontline staff.
"This funding boost will allow us to connect more people to the medical and mental health supports they need when being treated for an eating disorder," Ms Davies said in a statement on Sunday.
It will bring the state government's existing funding for eating disorder services to $16.8 million over the next four years.
The institute has expert researchers, clinicians and policy makers who aim to transform the treatment of eating disorders in Australia and find a cure.
Director Sarah Maguire said the extra funding will mean a full time eating disorder co-ordinator will be available in most health districts.
"The devastation of an eating disorder on a person's life, and that of their family, is significant," she said in a statement on Sunday.
"Equipping clinicians in both hospital and community settings where people first present is one of the best ways to ensure we intervene as early as possible and reduce suffering."
