NSW Labor, Libs not fazed by Vic election

Both NSW Labor and Liberal MPs say they will not be paying very much attention to the Victorian election result, despite their own poll being just months away.

Neither side of NSW politics say they will be taking much notice of the Victorian election result.

As Victoria heads to the polls on Saturday, both Labor and Liberal MPs said the election issues and voter priorities of their southern neighbour don't translate to NSW politics.

"Fundamentally, NSW and Victoria and their politics are completely different," a senior NSW Labor MP told AAP.

Liberal MP Gareth Ward said a Liberal loss wouldn't worry his party ahead of the March NSW state election.

"I think the leadership styles and the priorities of both parties down there is much different."

"I think that Victoria politics, and the cycle, is completely different to the cycle here in NSW."

The senior Labor MP said they were interested to see whether Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews, who they described as a progressive, would be able to combat the Greens push through Melbourne's inner suburbs.

"For Dan Andrews I think there are a few tests, has being a progessive government had an impact of sort of pushing back the Green wave through Melbourne?."

The MP added they were waiting to see if a negative campaign waged by opposition leader Matthew Guy would resonate with voters.

"It's been a pretty nasty campaign, it's been a hard, negative campaign, so I suppose we'll be looking whether we think that worked," they said.

Mr Ward said he believed Victorians would also be able to look past any issues they had with the federal Liberal government, and vote on state issues.
