NSW man bashed with baseball bat

A man has been charged with assaulting another man with a baseball bat, as well as contravening an AVO and possessing a gun in the NSW Hunter region.

A 19-year-old man will face a NSW court accused of stalking another man and bashing him with a baseball bat in Lake Macquarie.

Police also found a firearm and ammunition when they arrested him at a home in Cardiff at 8pm (AEDT) on Saturday.

It's alleged the man assaulted another 19-year-old man with a baseball bat at Edgeworth at 10.30am and was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Police say his alleged attacker has been charged with assault, possessing a firearm, contravening an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO), and one charge of stalking or intimidating.

Police would not say how the men knew each other, but confirmed they were known to police.

"That AVO is from a domestic from a few days earlier," a NSW police spokesman told AAP.

The man was refused bail at Newcastle Bail Court on Sunday, and will appear at the same court on Monday.
