NSW man charged over $37 million fraud

A third person has been charged over a fraud scheme involving a Sydney smash repair firm that ripped almost $37 million off financial institutions.

A third person has been arrested over an alleged scheme from a Sydney smash repair business to cheat financial lenders out of more than $36 million.

The 66-year-old man was arrested on Thursday morning when he attended Sutherland police station, in the city's south.

Detectives expect to charge him with a range of fraud offences, police say.

Another man and a woman have already been charged over the fraud, where fake and inflated invoices were used to scam $36,889,704 from 10 financial institutions, police say.

Last week, a 67-year-old female co-owner of the business at the centre of the alleged fraud was charged with similar offences.

Investigations into the business activities of the Kirawee garage began in August 2012.

Another 66-year-old man was charged on Tuesday with five counts of obtaining money by deception and nine counts of fraud.

Conditional bail has been granted and he's due before Sutherland Local Court in September.

The woman was last week charged with five counts of obtaining money by deception, nine counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception and 10 counts of knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime.

She has also been granted conditional bail and will front Sutherland Local Court on the same day.
