NSW man dark web drugs 'supplier': police

A NSW man charged over the alleged supply of drugs over the dark web will spend the weekend behind bars after his matter was adjourned in a Sydney court.

A Sydney man who allegedly supplied cocaine, magic mushrooms and other prohibited drugs over the dark web will remain behind bars until a bail application next week.

Nathan James Harnor, 43, was arrested on Thursday morning in Tempe, in Sydney's southwest, after an investigation by NSW and Australian Federal Police.

Search warrants were carried out there and at Wolli Creek and police say they found more than $12,000 in cash, cocaine, MDMA, magic mushrooms and drug paraphernalia.

Officers also found packaging and laptops with sophisticated hardware and software encryption.

Harnor did not appear when his matter was briefly mentioned in Newtown Local Court on Friday.

He faces nine counts of supplying prohibited drugs and one of dealing with the proceeds of crime.

No application for bail was made and it was formally refused but his lawyer told the court an application may be made when he next appears in the same court on Tuesday.

Police will allege Harnor has been taking orders for prohibited drugs online and supplying them via post for at least two years.

Detective Superintendent Tony Cooke said while technology had enhanced people's lives, it could also be used for sinister purposes and allowed drug suppliers to work from their own homes.

"This criminal enterprise presents a unique challenge for law enforcement," he said in a statement.

"But we too are evolving and adapting our tactics to infiltrate these spaces and detect drug transactions."
