NSW man escapes burning boat

A man on board a boat in the NSW Hunter region has had to flee the vessel after it caught alight in Lake Macquarie, police say.

A man on board a 35-foot boat which caught on fire in the NSW Hunter region has managed to escape unharmed.

The 60-year-old spotted flames on the vessel, which was approximately 50 metres into Lake Macquarie, around 8.30pm on Friday night.

He fled on an attached safety boat and suffered minor injuries but did not require treatment.

Firefighters extinguished the fire but the boat sunk underwater.
