A man has been found dead in his car at the Bluesfest music festival in northern NSW over the Easter long weekend.

The 44-year-old man was found inside his 4WD at the festival campground north of Byron Bay at about 2pm on Saturday, a police spokeswoman told AAP on Monday.

His friends initiated CPR and called emergency services, who could not revive the man.

Police said he is a local man and his death is not being treated as suspicious.

A post-mortem will be conducted and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
