Police officers arresting a man at a Villawood home on October 14, 2013, following the deadly shooting of 28-year-old Kamran Yousaf in a western Sydney fruit shop.

A coffin containing the body of slain fruit shop worker Kamran Yousaf has been carried through a massive crowd of mourners at a western Sydney mosque.

Mr Yousaf, 28, died after being found in the back of the Villawood Value Fruit Market with bullet wounds to his head and abdomen on Saturday, following an armed robbery.

He had been working weekends at the shop while completing a Masters in Professional Accounting.

Around 1000 people, most from Australia's Pakistani community, gathered at Rooty Hill mosque for a service to honour Mr Yousaf's memory on Wednesday, and spilled into a car park outside that had been specially set up for the service.

The service, conducted in a mix of Urdu, Arabic and English, included a number of prayers and an address from the Consul General of Pakistan in Sydney, Abdul Aziz Uqaili, AAP was told.

The service culminated in Mr Yousaf's coffin being carried through the crowd and into the mosque.

Speaking outside the mosque, the secretary of the Islamic Association of western Sydney, Masood Cheema, said the crowd was told Mr Yousaf was killed in a robbery and prayers were offered for his friends and family who were "overcome by grief".

Mr Yousaf married six months ago and his father has not yet been informed of his death.

His body will be flown back to Pakistan on Wednesday night.

Two men have been charged in connection with Mr Yousaf's death.
