Premier Kristina Keneally and several ministers spoke in support of the bill yesterday, but Nationals' leader Andrew Stoner spoke against it.
Mr Stoner said children need to be raised in an environment where there's a father and a mother, and as a father of six, he believes his children have benefited from having parents of both genders.

The same-sex adoption bill was introduced to parliament by independent Clover Moore, after amendments had been made with MPs given a conscience vote on the issue.
