A group of parents lifted a car and tore down a metal fence to help save a woman seriously injured in the car park of a Sydney netball complex, witnesses say.
The 61-year-old suffered head injuries and a broken leg after an out-of-control car crashed into her at Miranda about 10am on Saturday.
A 65-year-old man standing beside the woman also suffered head injuries.
Police said it appeared the 73-year-old driver of the SUV hit the accelerator instead of the brake while parking and crashed into the couple and the fence around one court.
Witnesses, including numerous off-duty emergency service workers, rushed to help the pinned women.
"Over 10 of us literally pulled down the fence so that others could pull the injured lady out from between the fence and the back of the SUV," off-duty nurse Melissa Caldwell told AAP.
Witness Judy McLachlan said a girl leaning against the fence "was catapulted off" before a group of men lifted the car off the woman.
"It's amazing what you can do when you're in an adrenaline rush," she told reporters.
An off-duty doctor and intensive care paramedic treated the woman before she taken in a serious condition to St George Hospital.
Sutherland Shire Mayor Carmelo Pesce thanked the netball community and emergency services for their quick actions and response.
"My thoughts are with the victims of this tragic incident this morning," he said in a statement.
All games scheduled at the courts were cancelled.
