NSW paraglider remembered as 'nicest guy'

The body of a paraglider has been retrieved off a cliff south of Sydney a day after his glider crashed.

The man who died after crashing into a cliff while paragliding south of Sydney has been remembered as the "nicest guy on the hill".

Des Hamilton took off from a popular gliding spot at Bald Hill Lookout at Stanwell Tops on Saturday afternoon before he fatally crashed into a cliff around 3pm.

Crews who were trying to retrieve his body ran out of light and decided to try again on Sunday.

They returned to the site for a briefing at 8am and recovered the body about 12pm.

Tributes have been flowing for Mr Hamilton, who is believed to be in his 50s, on Facebook.

"Nicest guy on the hill. Terrible...," Dave Skinny Storrie posted.

"Cool soul he was ... My condolences to all close to him," Amo Vivo said.

Nir Eshed said there hadn't been a fatality at the site for nearly two decades.

"As a club, we should create an event, in his memory, that will enhance the safety aspects of our sport and will remind us with his memory, how fragile we are!," he said on Facebook.

Cameron Thomas from the Stanwell Park Hang Gliding and Paragliding Club said Mr Hamilton died while doing something he loved.

"Support your fellow pilots, hug your loved ones and take a moment in memory for the one we lost today," Mr Thomas said on Facebook.
