A string of robberies in western Sydney targeting people selling mobile phones on Gumtree has sparked a police strike force investigation.

Sellers have been robbed in seven suburbs since December after agreeing to meet prospective online buyers in person.

NSW Police have released footage of a 26-year-old male victim being thrown from a black Toyota in south Strathfield after his phone and possessions were stolen.

Strike Force Hayden officers believe two men in their late teens are behind the scam.

The robberies happened in Lidcombe, Strathfield, Regents Park, Merrylands, Brookvale, Marsfield and Canley Heights.

Police will on Wednesday make a public appeal for help to catch the robbers.
