Police are seeking witnesses to a fatal motorcycle crash following the discovery of a man's body in the NSW Southern Highlands.

They say a motorist spotted a motorcycle and male rider down an embankment off the Illawarra Highway near Robertson about 12.40pm (AEDT) on Sunday.

Officers were called and the rider, aged in his 60s, was declared dead at the scene.

The crash site was declared a crime scene, with investigations indicating the man ran off the road on his BMW motorcycle sometime between 7am and 7.30am that morning.
