A NSW police officer has been charged with drink driving after returning a breath test three times over the limit.

The off-duty officer was arrested on Friday night in Windsor, just west of Sydney, after police stopped his car and made him take a breath test which returned a reading of 0.170.

He is due to appear in Downing Centre Local Court in September.
