NSW records 15 new coronavirus cases as Thai restaurant cluster grows to 60

NSW has recorded another 15 new cases of coronavirus, authorities said on Saturday.

NSW Health said of the state's new cases, eight have been linked to the Thai Rock restaurant in Wetherill Park.

The cluster from that establishment has grown to 60 cases. 

Another six newly-confirmed cases are returned travellers in hotel quarantine, and one is still under investigation. 

Of the cases linked to the Thai Rock restaurant cluster, two attended Cerdon College in Merrylands and were close contacts of a confirmed case who attended the Our Lady of Lebanon church. 

Another two of those cases are school children who attended Freeman Catholic College at Bonnyrigg Heights and Mary Immaculate Catholic Primary School in Bossley Park.

All three schools are closed while contact tracing and cleaning is underway.

Four of the newly reported cases are linked to multiple funeral gatherings and church services attended by a woman in her 40s from Sydney's Fairfield area last week.

They include a couple in their 60s from the North Coast and a couple in their 50s and 60s from south western Sydney. 

NSW conducted more than 30,500 tests over the past 24 hours, and there were no new cases linked to the Crossroads Hotel in Casula.

While most of the cases are from known, identifiable clusters, authorities are urging the state's residents to avoid non-essential travel and gatherings, and present for testing immediately after the onset of even mild cold or flu-like symptoms.  

NSW Health is now treating 97 COVID-19 cases, including four patients in intensive care units.

One person is on a ventilator.
