A New South Wales study that shows more people are using public transport has prompted calls for more investment in trains and buses and less spending on roads.
The state government's Household Travel Survey shows the number of trips taken by car dropped by 0.8 per cent during 2008-2009.
Train travel increased by 3.1 per cent, bus travel was up 2.4 per cent and walking trips were up 2.7 per cent.
