They are NSW's Generation Heartbreak who, having grown up in an era of Maroon euphoria, are driven to wash away the last 13 years of Blue tears.

The debuts of Payne Haas, Cameron Murray and Nick Cotric during Wednesday's State of Origin game one represent an important passing of the torch for NSW.

For most of their lives the trio, all aged 21 or under, have experienced little else other than Queensland dominance.

Haas at 19 will become the fourth-least experienced Blues player in Origin history with just 10 NRL games under his belt.

The Brisbane prop moved with his family to Queensland when he was 13 and still has vivid memories of every year eagerly rushing home to watch Origin, only to be left heartbroken.

Born in 1999, he was just six when Queensland's golden era began in 2006.

He said the experience influenced his attitude to the Maroons and now that he has the chance to pull on a sky blue jersey, he wants to make amends for years of disappointment.

"Watching NSW lose all the time, it was hard," Haas said.

"I used to go to school and would wait all day for the game and I'd be happy as.

"Then I'd go home and by the end of it I'd be a bit shattered.

"I can't wait for Wednesday and I can't wait to beat Queensland."

Under Mal Meninga, and later Kevin Walters, the likes of Cameron Smith, Darren Lockyer, Johnathan Thurston, Billy Slater and Greg Inglis inspired Queensland to an unprecedented era of dominance which saw them win 11 of 12 series from 2006 to 2017.

Brad Fittler's new-look Blues wiped the slate clean with a series win last year but Cotric said he wanted to be part of a new generation of NSW which inflicted the kind of disappointment on the people of Queensland that he felt as a youngster.

"I used to love watching Origin but then Queensland would win, I'd get real disappointed because I loved the Blues that much," Cotric said.

"You'd always see them winning. You want to start your own legacy and start winning for the Blues. Hopefully we can turn it all around."
