NSW showers and thunderstorms continue

Thunderstorms and showers are expected to continue to fall in the north-eastern parts of NSW on Monday afternoon.

Wild storms that swept across NSW overnight have passed but more showers and thunderstorms are expected in the state's north-east.

Damaging winds battered parts of the Riverina, Murrumbidgee, Central Coast and the Illawarra on Sunday night.

A roof was ripped off an apartment block in Wollongong, which was the worst affected area, with the State Emergency Service responding to nearly 50 calls for help.

Power has been restored to 3700 homes and businesses on the Central Coast, Ausgrid said on Monday.

Despite hail and lightning in Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong, the Bureau of Meteorology cancelled a severe thunderstorm warning by 2am.

"The immediate threat of severe thunderstorms has passed, but the situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary," BOM said in a statement.

The SES said most of the requests for help related to damaged roofs.

"We had about 150 calls all up since the thunderstorms went through yesterday," SES spokesman told AAP.

"It wasn't too bad, we had 73 calls for assistance overnight."

Residents in north-eastern NSW are being warned to expect further showers and thunderstorms on Monday afternoon.
