The western Sydney suburb of Harris Park has a huge Indian population, and the migrants have left their mark on the suburb through a number of subcontinental restaurants and supermarkets.
In June 2009, riots erupted in the suburb following an egg attack by juveniles. Hundreds of Indian nations attended the gathering, with many protesting what they said is racially-motivated violence.
But Superintendent Robert Redfern from Parramatta Local Area Command says there is no trend towards attacks on Indian nationals.
He says NSW police are engaging in dialogue with concerned members of the community.
Likewise, Lord Mayor of Parramatta City Council Paul Garrard says violence and safety are issues in any big metropolitan regions, and his area is no exception.

He denies Parramatta has a race problem, saying residents by and large get along harmoniously.
