There is still no sign of a Sydney teenager who was swept away four days ago while swimming on the NSW mid north coast.

Ali Mosawi was caught in a rip while swimming with his brother and three cousins at the unpatrolled Pebbly Beach in the Yuraygir National Park, north of Coffs Harbour, on Saturday afternoon.

The search resumed on Wednesday after being interrupted by strong winds on Tuesday afternoon, but failed to find the 17-year-old.

Hopes of locating the teen alive have faded and police are calling the hunt a recovery operation.
