A taxi driver has allegedly been bashed after a group of young people unleashed a violent attack on two taxis in Sydney's CBD.

The group of males and females allegedly smashed mirrors and jumped on one of the cars during the unprovoked attack at the intersection of Elizabeth Street and Martin Place early on Saturday morning.

One of the taxi drivers was also punched through his open window, police say.

The 43-year-old suffered minor cuts and bruising to his face and was treated at St Vincents Hospital.

Police said officers arrested three males but they were later released pending further inquiries.

Investigators have requested CCTV footage from several locations near the incident.

They've urged anyone who may have seen or know the alleged attackers, described as being of Pacific Islander appearance, to contact them.
