NSW teen accused of one-punch attack

NSW Police say a teenage boy was enjoying a day at the beach when he was punched in the face so hard he needed treatment for chipped teeth.

A Newcastle teenager is accused of punching another boy hard enough to chip his teeth in an unprovoked attack.

NSW Police say the 17-year-old approached another teen outside the surf club at Nobby's Beach at lunchtime on Thursday.

He allegedly punched the other teen, also 17, once in the face and then confronted the boy's friend.

Police say the victim and his friend ran away to alert lifeguards.

Officers have charged the alleged attacker with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intimidation.

He has been granted conditional bail to appear in Children's Court on February 10.

The injured teenager was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics.
