A teenage boy has died in the NSW Hunter region after consuming a suspected synthetic cannabis substance.

The 17-year-old's body was discovered at a reserve at Rutherford on Saturday night and while his cause of death is yet to be determined, police have been told he took the substance called "Chronic" in the hours before his body was found.

Two other men, both aged 22, have been treated for non-life threatening symptoms after consuming the same substance at nearby Telarah.

Police raided a property in Treasure Street, Rutherford on Sunday afternoon, seizing a quantity of Chronic.

Officers have warned anyone considering using illicit or synthetic drugs not to do it, no matter how it is branded or presented.
