A teenager is seriously injured after being stabbed at a party south of Newcastle.

The 15-year-old boy was stabbed in the stomach during a fight with another party-goer at Spoon Rocks, near Caves Beach just before 10pm on Saturday.

The attacker and several other party-goers fled while the teen was helped by his friends to a nearby home where emergency services were called, police say.

The boy was taken to John Hunter Hospital for emergency surgery and remains in a serious but stable condition.
