NSW toddler dies after backyard drowning

A toddler from the NSW Central Coast has died in hospital, a day after he was pulled unconscious from a backyard swimming pool.

A toddler who was found unconscious in a NSW Central Coast swimming pool has died.

The two-year-old boy was pulled from a backyard pool at Chain Valley Bay shortly after 4.30pm (AEDT) on Wednesday, police said.

Paramedics treated him at the scene, before he was airlifted to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.

He died in hospital on Thursday.

Investigators are still trying to piece together the circumstances surrounding the death and will prepare a report for the NSW Coroner.
