NSW Xmas weather hot and getting hotter

NSW is tipped to have a hot Christmas Day, with temperatures close to 30C forecast for the city.

Christmas Day is shaping up to be warm and sunny for much of NSW with temperatures closing in on 30C in Sydney.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting a zero per cent chance of rain, sunny conditions with a light easterly breeze in the afternoon.

The Central West will be in the mid to high 30s around Dubbo, and the mercury could push past 40 degrees further west near Ivanhoe.

Christmas Day will also mark the beginning of a growing heatwave which is expected to push temperatures in the state's east to 37C by New Years Eve.
