The Northern Territory's Commissioner for Correctional Services Ken Middlebrook has quit after a spate of prison escapes.
Chief Minister Adam Giles says he's accepted Mr Middlebrook's resignation and Northern Territory Police Force Deputy Commissioner Mark Payne has been appointed acting commissioner.
Mr Middlebrook's resignation comes after the escape this week of convicted rapist and killer Edward James Horrell, the 36th escape in 18 months.
